Safety – Legality – Cost
Incorrectly distributed weight or an overweight vehicle when towing can result in reduced stability that could lead to sway, or even worse, an accident or rollover. Being over your weights can invalidate your insurance and/or result in sizeable fines or licence penalties. Poor weight distribution also reduces performance and can lead to increased costs.
Verify ya Weights is here to help you understand and check your particular set-up, how to stay safe and how to be legally weight compliant.
Safety:
An overloaded or uneven towing setup will compromise steering and braking. Stability can also become an issue, creating the risk of sway, or worse, a rollover. Ensuring your weights are within manufacturer specifications will improve your overall safety on the road and protect you, your passengers and other road users.
Legality:
If your vehicle or what you are towing is found to not comply with the manufacturer specifications, it is illegal. It may be prevented from travelling further, except on a flatbed. Being overweight also increases the risk of fines for the driver. If an insurer finds a tow vehicle, caravan and/or trailer are overweight, they will deny any claims.
Cost:
A vehicle or van that is overweight or has poor weight distribution will likely cost more to run. It can increase fuel consumption, reduce tyre life and reduce brake life. Complying with manufacturer’s weight limits will reduce the risk of mechanical or structural failure, both of which can be extremely expensive to repair.
